Seriously had no idea. I've been cutting them out carefully for years and keeping all the scraps. Thank you above commenters! I sometimes prewash, but it depends on if I need to wash some things in similar colors that won't show a bleed. I totally am horrid about trimming threads, often still finding them months after completing a garment. I will also throw 'never change my needle' in to the mix. I have sewn leather with a regular needle and not even noticed. I change it if I remember but otherwise only if there's a problem. I've had to use a microtex needle for some weird knits, and I had to use a super fine needle for some silk that was getting punched by the larger needle. Apart from those occasions, I could be sewing with anything!Ms. McCallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02190263303526887994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5695034534740404365.post-38413774971814812552014-06-05T09:29:35.514-04:002014-06-05T09:29:35.514-04:00Loving this! Recently I've taken to not hemming skirts/dresses if I'm using knit fabric. I never trace my patterns, hate cutting out the pattern pieces have never made a muslin, hate cutting out fabric, ironing seams. Even if I pre-wash, I don't always iron it flat before cutting. I often leave lining un-stitched to the zipper on the inside of dresses and skirts. Oh and sometimes I "hem" garments with permanent fusible tape. I've never admitted that to anyone.Andrea (four square walls)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16918273093902968654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5695034534740404365.post-18682559226997616552014-06-04T18:38:58.652-04:002014-06-04T18:38:58.652-04:00I love Nakisha's comment! This defies logic,...I love Nakisha's comment! This defies logic, but I can't seem to be bothered with notches when I actually have pattern and fabric laid out nicely together.... I usually end up having to pull those pattern pieces back out at some time during construction for all-important notch info. Also, I have never taken the time to cut a pattern, let alone trace it... I just fold back the edges to my cut line (bit by bit, as best as I can) and cut it the hell out. I guess my sewings sins are actually "cutting out" sins.K.
