Me: "NO! Lucy...we can only have dance parties on Friday and Saturday nights."
Lucy: "But mooooooooooom! That's not fair!"
Me: "It IS fair. We can't have dance parties every night of the week. You get too pumped up, and then you won't go to bed."
This kid takes her dance parties seriously. She has started trying to exchange her two bedtime stories for 15 minutes of us as dancing as a family. We put on Pandora and takes turns making up new moves. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a peeper looking in our window.
I really hated sewing this little jersey dress, made from Burdastyle.com's Girl's Long Top pattern. I had to unpick several parts of it (the side gathers and the neckline...oh, and the cuffs. Ugh!). And I HATE unpicking. That's why this dress sat unfinished on my sewing table for weeks. (I had originally promised to finish it for her by the time we went to see Annie on Broadway, which was the last Friday in January.)
|When my kid was three, she invented something call "Jumperate" — like karate, but with jumping. |
She still pulls it out at dance parties.
And I hate how it turned out. The under pocket piece is all poufy and just looks really wrong (and amateurish, which I hate). The pattern instructions were really sparse, which is why I ended up unpicking and making changes several times over. I think I gathered too much at that curved pocket opening, so the two pieces didn't fit together right. But everything measured right and matched up. I just don't know. It may be the pattern's problem. I hate it.
Lucy, however, LOVES it. As soon as she saw this heart/leopard printed jersey — an unexpected gift from the generous gal Gingermakes — she wanted a dress in it. And, even I have to admit, it's super comfy for her — just perfect for dance parties:
Just don't tell anyone I made it, OK Lucy? I'm sure she will. Anything to tick off her mother.
