Sailor shorts and more photobombs from the master

Getting photobombed by a toddler AGAIN!

I've always had a thing for sailor pants. You all know that by now. And seeing the grande finale dance number by the cast of Anything Goes! during this year's Tony Awards underlined my perennial love of nautical-themed casual wear. Also, what five-foot-three gal like myself doesn't wish she were a little more like Sutton Foster, the seven-foot-tall actress starring in this Broadway show. See for yourself:

OK, so she's not seven feet tall, but the girl can move, right? Anyway, I've been working on my pattern for these sailor shorts for a while now. I based them on my friend Lizzi's capri faux sailor pants. I already tested them in muslin once, and then made a few changes. Now that I have a good fit, I can make them into true sailor pants this fall (after tackling the load of sewing I have scheduled to fill the rest of my summer: a flowergirl dress, a junior bridesmaid dress, and a peacock-print silk dress for me).

Ryan channeled Tim Gunn and told me the buttons I chose were too literal (yes, they're anchors).

I also made this little tube top with a bow to keep the Anything Goes! feel going. I didn't ask my husband's opinion on the top. What do you think? Is it "a lot of look"? Of course it is, but at least I'm not wearing tapshoes.  I need to learn how to pose.

Dig my welt pockets!

One more photobomb!

  1. So cute! Nice job. In my thinner non-postpartum days I used to wear the cutest pair of chambray sailor shorts and I miss them!

  2. Absolutely love them, 100% - with the bow. Life's too short not to wear bows (and your red lipstick is a nice touch). Great work, Sue!
